    ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

    Swami Vivekananda says that Education should be Man Making. To prove the words our philanthropic management established a unique educational institution, which is known as Arulmigu Palaniandavar College of Oriental Culture in 23rd June 1960. In the initial stage Oriental culture college offered B.A., Degree in Oriental Culture. In Hinduism, service to the humanity is the highest form of worship. So Arulmigu Dhandayathapani Swami Thirukkoil Devasthanam, which is our Humanitarian management offered free education with boarding and lodging to the rural poor students through the Oriental Culture College. Later on Oriental Culture was changed into Indian Culture with same syllabus. Post Graduate course in Indian Culture was launched in the academic year 1971-1972. In the academic year 1981-1982 Culture College was merged with Arulmigu Palaniandavar Arts College. The college was renamed as Arulmigu Palaniandavar College of Arts And Culture with Indian Culture with the Department of Indian Culture. The Department of Indian Culture offers Under Graduate and Post Graduate courses to the rural students. The Ph.D. research Programme was launched in the year 2006. The Faculty of Members of the Department are very much involved in stimulating the human values, Indian culture and creativity to the pupil. The faculty members have been Ph.D. Degree.

    INFRASTRUCTURE

    The Department of Indian Culture has sufficient facilities for conducting classes. Each class room has sufficient furniture. The Department has Computer with Internet facilities. A separate Department library was maintained with adequate books for the Post Graduate students and Research scholars. A separate temple models room was also available in the College Campus as visualized for the benefits of the students. Teaching aids such as LCD Projector, Overhead Projector and Epidiascope are also available for utility of the students.

    RESEARCH ACTIVITIES

    The Department has four faculty members with Ph.D., Degree. The Department has five Guest Lecturers, three with Ph.D., Degree. The remaining two Guest Lecturers are pursuing Ph.D. Degree. Dr.C.Sriraja Assistant professor is doing minor research project funded by the UGC. The Department organizes a State/ National / International level seminars, conferences and workshops. The Department faculty members have published / presented / participated in the State / National / International Level Seminars.

    CAREER GUIDANCE

    The Department of History conducts special coaching classes for NET / SET especially for the Post Graduate students. Remedial Coaching classes for the students those who have failed in the semester examinations. There is a question bank in the department which has collection of previous semester examination questions conducted by the Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai. The pupil of the Department of Indian Culture has sufficient Job opportunities in Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department of Tamilnadu, Tourism Industry and also in UPSC and TNPSC Competitive Examinations.

    FUTURE PLAN

  • To offer M.Phil., Degree Course

  • To establish Art Gallery

  • To offer Ph.D Programme in Part Time.

  • To conduct UGC/ ICHR/ ICPR/ ICSSR/ IICL sponsored seminars and conferences.

  • Career Guidance to the students to be organized by the Department of History with the help of Alumni.
